Most people who want to learn to canoe, often remark that they wish it was warmer. Warmer weather and warmer water. We totally understand this. For some people the thrill of getting cold and wet is just not part of the fun.
If you are one of those people, or you just fancy a lovely holiday learning to canoe then this is the holiday for you. Based in the glorious Ardeche region of the South of France, the weather is warm, in fact you could call it HOT, and the water is a lovely temperature that makes falling in a pleasant pastime ( not that we expect you to fall in often !!) This is a week of learning to canoe in this stunning area that is world famous for its limestone gorges, wildlife, awesome food and great paddling. The gorge is 40km long, approximately 300 m deep with two marked camp areas. it winds its way throughout the area, making canoe the most effective way to travel. We love this holiday, it is what linking canoeing and holidays is all about. In brief the aim is to have five days canoeing and coaching, leading up to being happy to paddle white water. But that's not all. Its also all about the weather, the local food, the local restaurants and the wildlife and history.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is a hard core trip that needs bucket loads of kit and stamina. It is a holiday, yes we canoe for five days, from 9 till 5, but the area is beautiful, the river amazing, the wildlife is out of this world. Last trip there we saw:- Eagles, Black Kites, Humming birds, Lizards, snakes, scorpions, Beavers, Dear, Wild Boar, turtles etc. We visited three of the local wonderful restaurants a week, guided tours around underground lit up caves, oh and played mini golf!!

So the Nitty Gritty:- A five day canoe course, based in the south of France, camping within walking distance of the river. Aimed at tandem paddling, but solo is perfectly suitable. We will look at the basic skills required to get yourself paddling in control, and we will use the stunning Ardeche gorge as a test piece as we descend it in three days camping out twice on the way down. The trip starts on the Sunday night, where we can relax over dinner and all chat about the what's in store and what we would want out of it, and will end on the Friday night again over dinner for tea and medals!!
